The Honorable Kathy Wilson is mayor of Neylandville, Texas, very possibly the last all-black town in Texas. Pop. 56. Among her other duties, Mayor Wilson called the numbers at the annual Juneteenth bingo game in the local community center. Several dozen locals and out-of-towners gathered for the 145th year of Juneteenth. What began in Galveston, Texas, on June 19th, 1865, with the announcement of freedom for Texas slaves, has grown into a nationwide observance. In some places, the celebration lasts a day, and in others it lasts all month.
