One afternoon, I drove northwest on Highway 71 from Austin, Texas. This is one of the prettiest drives there is in Texas. When I got to Llano county, about 5 miles south of the city of Llano, I detoured onto county road 305. Turns out this road passes through private property, although I did not know it at the time. After 100-150 yarsds, I saw this abandoned house, perhaps 1920s vintage, and I stopped for a photo. I peeked inside the windows, but there was very little to see: a few old chairs, a broken down table and assorted trash. In the early part of the 20th century, life out here was isolated, but must have been wonderfully peaceful and self-sufficient. Unless, of course, you crave a pizza.
