This is very much like the prairie that the pioneers traveled across in the 1800s. Their prairie usually had much taller grass, but this photo give you a sense of the sweep of land that is so much a part of West Texas. Imagine what kind of people would pull up roots back east and travel this way to start a new life… Some were adventurers, some were misfits and some were desperate to start over. Their descendants are still here today, usually head-strong and independent. And mighty friendly.
