I met Joy at the Iowa State Fair last week. Her Mennonite attire caught my eye– the simple, ankle-length red dress and the white bonnet (which she calls a veil). The Mennonites are known for their literal view of the New Testament, and they are one of the very few remaining “peace churches” known for their commitment to non-violence. Their worship services are marked by acapella singing. Often they are confused with the Amish sect. Joy assured me that the Mennonites are OK with much of the technology shunned by the Amish, such as cell phones and surfing the web.
