Freedom Rock.

Every year, since 1999, Iowa artist Ray Michael Sorensen II, paints a tribute to the United States military on this rock, Freedom Rock.  The rock sits at the entrance to an old rock quarry, in southwest Iowa, on county road 25, just north of Greenfield.   You may visit the Freedom Rock website:

Mr. Sorensen paints a new scene every year on this rock.  One interesting feature about the painting:  the paint he uses is mixed with the ashes of deceased military veterans.  In effect, those veterans become part of the tribute.
