Happy Junction.

In your mind’s eye (sidenote:  Shakespeare coined it– Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 2)– In your mind’s eye, go back to the 1950s.  Hula hoops and roller rinks were all the rage.  Drive-in theaters, too, but that is for another entry.   Just outside Garrison, Texas, in the northeast part of Nacogdoches county, the Happy Junction Roller Rink was thriving through the ’50s and into the ’60s.  When I took this photo, early one morning a few years ago, the roller rink was gone, and all that was left was a memory and a name on this ramshackle old store.  Inside a gruff old fellow, with a bad eye, a fellow who once was young and thriving, was selling odds and ends, a few antiques, and soft drinks.  I got my usual breakfast drink, a diet Dr. Pepper, and drove on.
