Like an outdoor living rom, the drive-in theater used to be the best entertainment for a buck.  In the late 1950s and early 1960s, there were about 4,000 drive-ins throughout the U.S..  Young families enjoyed bringing their noisy kids to an outdoor movie, and turning them loose in the play area.  Teenage couples had their own passion for the drive-in.  Myself in college in the 1970s, I had a few memorable dates at drive-ins…

Those days are gone and won’t ever return, but there are still a few drive-ins left, and even a few new ones being built.  Very few.  In Texas, there are, maybe, 16 drive-in theaters left.  A classic example is the 4-screen Galaxy Drive-in just north of Ennis, Texas.  These two photos do not show all four screens, but you get the idea.  Who knows, once again, I might just take in a movie some night…. with the right girl. 😉
