James and Maygan want you to know their wedding is set for May 21, 2011.  If you have trouble remembering the date, they painted a reminder on a rock just west of Weatherford, Texas.  James tells me that painting this rock is a tradition in Weatherford going back to the days when his dad (age 59) was a kid.  There is even an unwritten code of ethics about painting the rock:  (1)  No obscene or vulgar messages;  (2) Messages are to remain untouched by anyone else for at least seven days.

The rock has a sad tradition, too.   In high school, James had a close friend named Janakae.  In 2006, Janakae, age 20 and a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, was serving as designated driver for a friend, when she was killed by a drunk driver.  Now Janakae’s mother comes to this rock each year and paints a tribute to her daughter.  You can learn more about this young woman by doing a search for “Janakae Sargent”.

  1. Thank you for posting the rock on your website & mentioning my beautiful daughter, Janakae. Not sure if James told you or not, but she was killed by a drunk driver in 2006, while serving as a designated driver for college friends. You can search her name “Janakae Sargent” & find links to information about her, as well as a news story about her crash that is posted on youtube. Just a little part of what I do now to bring awareness to the hazards of drunk driving in her memory & honor.

Please let us know what you think about what we see.
