Let’s do it, Let’s fall in love.

This photo brings Cole Porter to mind.  His classic “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love”.

Romantic sponges, they say, do it
Oysters down in oyster bay do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

His lyrics don’t mention rattlesnakes, but we can assume that lyrics which include “electric eels do it/though it shocks them, I know,” also means to include land serpents…

In any event, I photographed these two romantic rattlers at the Sweetwater, Texas, “Rattlesnake Roundup” this past weekend.  Billed as “The World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup”, the annual event takes place on the second weekend in March.  For years, I have wanted to see it for myself, but never found the time.  This year I got up early Saturday morning and drove 3 hours west to Sweetwater.   I will post more photos in a few days.

And yes, it is true, these two snakes are in love.  At least as far as they understand the concept.

Please let us know what you think about what we see.
