Recovery Dogs.

Yesterday, I happened to meet Brittany with her two recovery dogs.  Recovery dogs are trained to do HRD– human remains detection.  This is a specialized training which teaches dogs to distinguish between (if I may use the immortal words of the King James Bible) “the quick and the dead”.  I asked Brittany if the dogs are trained using actual human remains, and she answered yes.  The dogs are part of the Recovery Dog Network.  Through that network, dogs are registered with law enforcement and other agencies which need their skills.  Perhaps not surprisingly, recovery dogs are also used by anthropologists and archeologists to sniff out ancient bones.  You can find out more about the Recovery Dog Network at

I was pleased to see that her recovery dogs did not take a special sniffing interest in me– which means I must still be alive.  🙂

Please let us know what you think about what we see.
