I met Roy on Sunday afternoon at Victor Hugo’s restaurant/bar in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. Right away I could see that there is Native American blood in his veins. He confirmed this to me when he said that he is Apache on his mother’s side, and Cherokee/Spanish on his father’s side. He was an active duty Marine for 24 years, and he is quick to tell anyone that once a Marine, always a Marine. For the past 17 years, he has been a police officer. We traded stories about families and life, over a glass of wine, a mug of beer, and a shot of tequila.
