When Maria and her family visited Cozumel last year, they saw this lady doing what her ancestors did centuries ago, making tortillas. True, Cozumel is touristy and all, but then you see small moments that hearken back a thousand years or more, and you remember that before we ever existed, they always were. Thank You, Maria, for taking this photo and for allowing us to post this ancient/modern moment on “We’ll See!”
Techie info: This photo was taken with Kodak Potra 160 color film, using a Nikon F6, 35mm lens.
Kudos to Katherine for taking this poignant photo at the DFW International Airport. The young girl’s parents came here from Pakistan ten years ago.
These United States, along with other free and open countries, take a special pride in our freedom to speak out. We know it is not a perfect freedom, and we have been debating ‘how free is free’ for 240 years. For now, anyway, as we begin with a new president, new rules on immigration and new concerns, we are still free to protest.
I am proud of my country, just as you are proud of yours. And my fervent hope is that we can live together in peace.
